Skid Row

Funny thing. A song that I can really connect to for the most part is "Skid Row", a scene and a song that can be found in the movie Little Shop of Horrors. I can relate to this particular song because when I was much younger, I had and still have the desire to leave my Hometown, Harlem. In the song "Skid Row" one of the actors who plays the character Seymour describes Skid Row with such sadness and grief. I think he did a great job. He sung my Blues. Check it out!

The movie Little Shop of Horrors made it first debut in 1986 starring actors Rick Moranis and Ellen Greene

I am So Ashamed

I am so ashamed as a Dominican, was the first thought that came to my head when I first saw Sammy Sosa's (former Baseball player's) bleached skin and light eyes. Coming from Dominican background I have always been proud of my Dominican culture and most importantly my uniqueness that comes from being Dominican. Dominicans are on of the most versatile and unique looking people in terms of race. Our shade of skin color has no limit. So, when I saw Sammy Sosa's recent pictures, I couldn't understand why he would want to reject such a beautiful and rich culture. Why would he want to reject me? I favor his skin color. I've always been proud of Dominicans who favor a darker completion because I understand how difficult it is to fight off racist and discriminative comments. They are great examples that Hispanics come in all colors. Some dark and others light. Why would he reject this idea? Why would he reject me? I am very hurt by his decision whiten his skin color and lighten his eyes. It was very hurtful and embarrassing to see him this way

Sammy Sosa's claims that his skin is going through a skin rejuvenation process. I hope so. Whatever that means.
